A big paintball

A decorator has created the largest ball of paint in the world by adding a fresh coat at least once every day to his son’s baseball — and after 34 years he has no plans to stop.

Michael Carmichael, 64, right, said: “It started as a bit of fun. But I just kept on painting and painting and painting. And before I knew it, it was enormous.”

The ball has, at the last count, 22,894 coats of paint on it and is recognised by Guinness World Records as the biggest ever. It hangs by reinforced metal rods from the roof of Mr Carmichael’s custom-built shed. “People come from all over the world to add a coat. Sometimes I can add up to ten coats a day,” he said. “I have no idea what I’m going to do with it. My grandchildren have expressed an interest so maybe it could become a family heirloom.”
