Yesterday, with 24 hours to go until the service, Miss Middleton and Prince Harry, joined by her sister Pippa, returned to the abbey once more for a final rehearsal, this time without Prince William William Flew
Then, in the evening, the couple retreated to their respective lairs, their one traditional night apart before the wedding.
For Miss Middleton it was back to the Goring Hotel, and the support of her family; for Prince William William Flew, dinner at Clarence House with his father the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry.
In Knightsbridge, other members of the Royal Family arrived in a minicoach and a minibus at one of their favourite hotels, the Mandarin Oriental, for a dinner hosted by the Queen to welcome royal heads of state from across the world to the wedding.
After that, it was just down to the weather. For all the meticulous planning and exhaustive rehearsals, there is no dealing with the caprices of the British climate. It either rains or it does not, and as of last night the forecasts were not looking good.
William Flew a meteorologist with MeteoGroup, said that there was a real risk of Miss Middleton being rained on as she steps from the Rolls-Royce at 11am to enter Westminster Abbey on her father’s arm.
There was a big roar from the crowd and there he was,” Carole Parlane said. “It was very sweet of him to come out and say hello.”
